Video Highlights from the Show

My Night in Jail

As I walked home from rehearsal one night in the East Village, I was arrested for putting up a small poster to promote the upcoming run of my popular parody self-help lecture, 7 1/2 Habits of Highly Effective Mistresses, the musical. This "wildly entertaining" comic monologue was the result.

Presented as part of Make America Laugh and Sing Again.

I Cannot Get Enough

Ellen Mandel and I created "I Cannot Get Enough" originally for our sold-out show 7 1/2 Habits of Highly Effective Mistresses. But after I was sued for the parody by the FranklinCovey Corporation for trademark infringement of "7 Habits of Highly Effective People," we took the best material and created a new show Savvy Secrets of Successful Mistresses, the musical.

We keep the song topical, updating the lyrics with the latest news events. This version was created for Make America Laugh and Sing Again.

Smile When You Say Goodbye

With the marvelous Ellen Mandel on piano, the show ended with her terrific song "Smile When You Say Goodbye" performed by Ellen and Stan Baker, Mariah Bonner, Michael Lydon and Lisa Faith Phillips.

About the show

How it came to be

In December 2020 writer/performer/producer Lisa Faith Phillips wanted to bring people together to celebrate the joy of laughter and song to lift spirits against the grim daily onslaught of the political news. So, she asked her talented friends to get together and put on a show. Everyone said "Yes!" The result was MAKE AMERICA LAUGH AND SING AGAIN!

On February 27, 2020, everyone came together for a sold-out "wildly entertaining" evening of hilarity and song to benefit at Pangea, the East Village Alt-Cabaret Supper Club.

What a great night it was.  With the sold-out house, we raised money for a good cause and enjoyed a wonderful evening.

Big thank you to the performers who donated their time and talent to make it such a great show: the hilarious Stan Baker, the charming chanteuse Mariah Bonner, legendary musician/songwriter/writer Michael Lydon, uber-talented composer and pianist Ellen Mandel, and the comic writer, producer, and emcee Lisa Faith Phillips. The marvelous singer/songwriter/actress Natalie Smith was scheduled to perform, but she was held up shooting Law and Order SUV.

Thank you Jon Waldman for the excellent stills and video of the show!

About Make America Laugh and Sing Again

Bringing people together to lift our spirits

Growing up in Findlay, Ohio, a test site for cable television, on Saturday morning after I finished my chores, I would escape into the world of Andy Hardy, where a young Mickey Rooney would always save his small town by putting on a show.  Ever since I've been an entertainer, putting on shows with great comedians, singers and musicians, to bring people together to  share laughter and song. Today we need it more than ever.

Our first show was Thursday, Feburary 27

Where: Pangea,  the coolest East Village cabaret, 178 2nd Avenue, between 11th and 12th St, NYC.

A great cause! It’s a benefit for Common Cause.

Five Stars and Best of the Fringe!

"Hilarious autobiographical one-woman show performed and written by Lisa Faith Phillips….the imagery in her words is vivid, real and funny. The stage is decorated with nothing but her but this is enough…. Phillips is an incredible storyteller and her show is fascinating to watch and to listen to.  An incredible storyteller her show is fascinating to watch and to listen to." - Mariya Danilenko, DC Metro Theater Arts

Wildly funny

"A treasure trove…Phillips mixes absurdism and social satire to hilarious results…Onstage she is a force of nature and bubbly wit….She can still shake and shimmy with the best of them, look damn good doing it, and simultaneously dispense valuable wisdom…” - Jamie Lubin, The Huffington Post

wildly entertaining

"I thought this performer was outrageously funny and successfully cunning. Devilishly clever and wildly entertaining….every line demanded a boisterous laugh. She exudes inherent fun like a bottle of champagne. Uplifting and unpredictable, Lisa Faith Phillips should have delivered the damn State of the Union Address this year." - Carolyn Smith,
